I haven’t felt much like blogging these past few weeks because, as the holiday approaches and the days darken, I struggle with positive ways to move through it. And with last week’s shootings in Oregon and Connecticut, I felt uncomfortable posting about the ordinary, everyday things in which I find joy. Jeff and I often talk about politics and social issues with each other, but outside people whom I’ve known a long time, it is difficult for me to articulate how I think or feel about these things to the Internet world. I’ve retreated to my iPhone camera for creative refuge, possibly my main reason for even buying one. Maybe iphoneography is lazy photography, but I love its convenience and the social networking aspect of sharing photos with others; it challenges me to visually document my daily life and relieves the pressure of always trying to find the right words.

I love your work, dude! Your writing and photography has a way of stripping through the clutter to reveal the beautiful and courageous truths about your journey.

Comment by Lisa December 20, 2012 @ 9:43 PMIt’s good to take a break from the “big” creative projects from time to time. Your iPhone camera is one way to keep creative before you dive into the next one!

Comment by Jeff December 19, 2012 @ 6:22 AMI’ll consider the iPhone as a technical diary – which works because I can’t draw, so photos are the best substitute.

Comment by Lisa December 19, 2012 @ 8:57 AMMother Blue is right. I love the stairs (looking up). OK well you are great with cellphone photos but I dunno because I really love your photos from a year ago (the b&w curtains).

Comment by Michael Williamson December 18, 2012 @ 6:40 PMThanks, Michael – I appreciate your support (especially when I have ‘down side’ posts :)). This also gives me the encouragement to pick up my dslr more this winter, which I’ve neglected this year. I may start using my old Pentax K1000 again too – instant film makes me realize how much I miss film in general.
