On the way home from New York, I begged Jeff to pull off I-79 so we could check out Conneaut Lake Park. My father and stepmother took my sister and step brothers there when we were kids in the ’80s. Even then the park had low attendance, so it was like having the place to ourselves. I think we rode the Hell Hole enough times in a row to make us puke. It has opened on and off over the years, but strangely, they don’t lock it up or anything. Nobody seems to care if you walk around as long as you aren’t scaling the Blue Streak or something as dangerously stupid.  As we explored the park, we could hear voices faintly on the other side of the Kiddieland wall. It felt creepy; Jeff swears he could smell the ashes of the burned-out ballroom as if it  went up in smoke yesterday.
