1950s

Halloween is our favorite holiday —  so much that we decided to make it our wedding anniversary. The whole month of October is like Christmas for us: Saturday night horror films, planning costumes,  finding the perfect pumpkin to carve into a skull face. What more could a girl ask for? Our vintage Halloween collection of old masks, party noisemakers and die-cut decorations is growing; when we buy a house, we’re going to have to make a Halloween room just to stash all the goods.

1920s

not Halloween, but they are in costume. traveling circus children, 1920s

harlequin. germany, 1926.

lucile wyle. 1920s.

in costume for a school play? I love how the faces look as if they are disappearing.

We have lots of STUFF (ha ha!). Trying to keep it organized – my favorite part of our collection is the Halloween stuff for sure. My favorite time of year!

I love these photos! where did you find them?? the last one is my favorite!

Comment by Becky

Thanks, Becky! We collect old photos, so whenever we go to flea markets or antique shops, we look through bins of them. Some of these are from etsy, some from ebay, some from a little junk shop in Florida. The very first one we found in a pile of sale stuff in East Liverpool (our ‘secret’ place where we find the weirdest stuff). Collecting vintage Halloween takes a lot of patience.

Guys, you need to try to go here before the month is out:

http://www.pennhurstasylum.com/

But it’s near Philly, so it may be too long a drive.

However! Apparently there’s another one in West Virginia that’s 2 hrs south of Pittsburgh:

Please go to one of these! Marta and I really want to go but we’ll never make it down there before Halloween.

We have the WV lunatic asylum on our list of places for spring (we won’t ge to make it before the end of this season.).
Now the two of you have to come to Pittsburgh so we can travel through strange and wonderful WV – get here now, dammit!

Just as I finished this blog, Jeff told me he won another vintage photo on ebay for our collection (an early anniversary present — we’ll keep you posted).
